rob placing wedding ring on bride's finger

The Cranky Creative ties the knot

I wrote the most important copy of my life in July 2004. I was responding to an online personals ad posted by the woman who is now my wife.

We married this past May. And again in July. We had planned for a July beach wedding in Florida, but guest lists and travel logistics meant we also needed an earlier ceremony here in Wisconsin.

I’m glad. Marrying Mrs. Cranky was so once-in-a-lifetime amazing, it was a joy to do it twice.

Here are some photos of our wedding day(s). You can click each photo to see a larger version. (Just hit your browser’s Back button to return to the gallery.)

The Wisconsin wedding

Our first wedding ceremony took place in our home. Our dining room, to be precise. I love that we wed in such a personal, pretty space.

The Florida wedding

It was July fifth and the fireworks continued. We were blessed with beautiful (but hot!) weather for our wedding ceremony in Madeira Beach (near St. Petersburg).

Behold—the beach, a busty female pirate, a snowy egret on our balcony, and a few of our favorite places.

Music to marry by

At our first wedding ceremony, Mrs. Cranky walked down the aisle to the song “Open My Eyes” by one of my favorite rock bands, Buckcherry. Such a beautiful song and the lyrics fit so perfectly. (You can hear it by clicking on the video embedded below.)

“Open My Eyes”—Buckcherry

Are you strong enough
Do you feel my touch
You are the comfort in my eyes
Moving through the lust
Feeling dangerous
I wanna open the door to your life

The steps we take on the way to free our minds
And lives have changed by the way we free our minds
And being with you was the moment
I opened my eyes

When you sleep at night
Are your dreams delight
Do all your fantasies fill your head

I want to dance with you
With the midnight moon
Want emotion and do it again

The steps we take on the way to free our minds
And lives have changed by the way we free our minds
And being with you was the moment
I opened my eyes

Breathing in, breathing out your love
Breathing in, breathing out my love
Breathing in, breathing out your love

Come in closer now
To this love we found
Are you able to take this flight

It’s come down to this
The first time we kissed
Like the ocean we sway you and I

The steps we take on the way to free our minds
And lives have changed by the way we free our minds
And being with you was the moment
I opened my eyes

And now, back to business

Thanks to everyone who’s been reading and sharing your comments here on the blog and on Facebook. I’ve had a lot of fun doing this for the past year and I hope you have, too.

A final note. If you’re at all worried that this wedded bliss will make me soft, you can rest easy.

I’ve never been happier, but I’m still damn cranky.

  1. Congratulations…loved the wedding pictures and thought it divine that your lovely bride had TWO wedding gowns. You both look blissful and excited to meet all challenges yet to come! Beautiful egret, beach and sidewalk scenes! Bravo!

    1. Thank you so much, Holly! We enjoyed both weddings, but I can honestly say that standing there at the altar at our beach wedding, looking into the watery eyes of Mrs. Cranky, was the happiest moment of my life.

Again, we thank you. Your comment made our day!
